Tweaking…

Wednesday, 7th April 2004 4:04 pm

Just had some fun with the really rather useful MTAmazon plugin for Movable Type. What this does is make it easy to link to items at amazon, and automagically inserts the small picture of the item and the current price.

It’s quite useful as it is, and with the instructions at Technology Stir Fry, I was able to make it link to amazon.co.uk rather than amazon.com.

But hold on, I thought. Maybe some readers[1] outside the UK might want to look at some of the items, and maybe even buy them. So, I twiddled a bit. Probably not the best way to do it, but I made a copy of the relevant files, and edited the copies so they refer to amazon.com not amazon.co.uk. Now I can happily link to both, making it easy for visitors to spend all their money. :grin

[1] Assuming there are any :rolleyes

R.E.M.

Last night I finally got round to watching the REM DVD Perfect Square that I bought a few weeks ago. It’s a concert they played in Wiesbaden[1] in July 2003. Not just the usual greatest hits or recent material show, this. OK, there are the obligtory new songs, and the usual suspects like “Everybody Hurts” and “Losing My Religion”, but they also played a number of rarer songs that fans voted for on the REM website. Good show, lovely outdoor setting, Michael Stipe on fine form. What more could you ask for? The full set lasts for about 1 hour 45 minutes, and there’s also a documentary on the disk (which I haven’t seen yet, so I can’t comment about that).

Good DVD - sound and picture both of excellent quality.

[1] Or “Wiesbaden, Germany” as it says on the label, allowing for the geographically challenged :rolleyes

A smaller variation today - up slightly at 203.2 pounds (14 stone 7.2 pounds, 92.2kg), which is as near to 14½ as makes no difference.
