First, the good news. Ozh has produced an updated version of his nifty Admin Drop Down Menus that is entirely WordPress 2.6 friendly.
Now the bad news. The new version of Admin Drop Down Menus doesn’t play nicely with Fluency Admin:
That does make it a little hard to see what’s going on…
For the moment, I’ve removed the Drop Down Menus, as if I have to choose, I’d rather keep Fluency. I’d much rather have both, and I’m hoping there will be an update from one or both that will make things happy again.

Both Fluency Admin and Admin Drop-Down Menus will need minor updates to account for some changes in WordPress 2.6. Fluency isn’t expecting there to be a number next to the “Plugins” label, so it isn’t styled the same way as the “awaiting moderation” count next to “Comments”. Admin Drop-Down Menus doesn’t know about the new “Turbo” link to install Gears[3], and hides it.
I’m sure the developers of both will do what’s needed as soon as life and other such things allow. As it stands, these aren’t actual problems, so I’m happy to keep using both to make the admin interface more friendly.
Now the fun will start with development of the next WordPress release!
[1] This is always recommended, but often ignored….
[2] Much, much, much better. For me, the upgrade is worth doing for that alone
[3] See the video in my previous post for details on that
Check the official announcement for more information, or if you just want a quick run-through of the the new features, you can watch this video:
One new little feature that I really like that isn’t mentioned in the video is a flag that shows up in the admin interface when one or more of your plugins have updates available. This is really useful, as up till now, the update notifications have only been visible if you actually went to the plugins page. Nice work.
I had a good play with pre-release versions on a test site, and nothing seemed to break, so I’ll be upgrading soon.

At lunchtime, I had a bit of a walk to the City Library, and watched one of the quite large glass modules being fitted. Pictures will appear later.
And, shock, horror, sensation! I managed to behave myself at lunchtime, and had a nice cheese baguette and no sausage rolls.

Will I manage to walk at all? Will I resist the sausage rolls? Find out in the next exciting weight report…

I’ll get on with June 2007’s backlog next week…

This is a small set of pictures taken just before the demolition work started at Eldon Square. Signs warning drivers about the road closures are in place, and they’re starting to remove the street lights. There are also a couple of pictures of the buildings that have since been removed.
